Text - Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry 3rd Ed
We’ll be doing the labs in this text, generally in order, but you don’t have to have this text. In order to accommodate our facility, for some of the topics, we’ll substitute a different experiment that shows the same concept in a different way. If you are doing the class work for credit in addition to the lab, I’m happy to provide a grade for your lab portion. If you aren’t doing coursework in chemistry at home this year, you can get the relevant background from Khan Academy videos online for free.
Khan Academy Chemistry Topics - https://www.khanacademy.org/science/chemistry - In depth, classroom style lessons.
Khan Academy Crash Course in Chemistry - https://www.khanacademy.org/partner-content/crash-course1/crash-course-chemistry - A fun overview at lightening speed. (Parents may want to preview these videos first as they include popular culture references and are not from a Christian perspective.)
Students responsibilities -
Read the content before class
Bring writing utensils
Bring spiral notebook or 3 ring binder for lab write-ups (You can buy the Apologia Student notebook if you like, but you don’t need it. I’m attaching an example lab write-up below. These will be completed in class and will follow the same format each time.)
Wear play clothes (either bring an old button down shirt as a cover up, or wear something that can get messy).
Supplies -
I will provide all of the lab supplies, including safety equipment, that are needed. I may occasionally ask students to bring in some household items.
